About the Wildlife Biology Degree Program

On Campus

The Wildlife Biology degree at the University of Nebraska at Kearney integrates a deep study of biology with an emphasis in applied vertebrate ecology. Student learning is directed toward understanding the distribution and abundance of species (ecology), with a special emphasis on mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians (terrestrial vertebrates).

Research experience is a core component of the Wildlife Biology program, and students have the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge to real-world issues when doing their own independent research their senior year.

As a Wildlife Biology major, you'll complete the educational requirements to eventually become a Certified Wildlife Biologist (five years of on-the-job experience is also required). Certification is an advantage to obtaining a job as a wildlife professional.

Nicole Mittman

“My time in the classroom certainly gave me a solid background in wildlife ecology, but it was my time in the Undergraduate Research Fellowship program that introduced me to practical fieldwork skills like camera trapping for muskrats and handling kangaroo rats; this proved to be invaluable when applying for jobs after graduation. Without my experiences at 体育菠菜大平台 I wouldn’t be at my dream job today working to conserve endangered black-footed ferret populations in the West.”
